| Teen Challenge of St. Louis,
a part of the network of over 180 Teen Challenge centers across
the U.S., is celebrating over 40 years of service to the St.
Louis metropolitan area. The first Teen Challenge facility
in St. Louis was established September 15, 1966 in Webster
Groves, Missouri. In 1971, due to the increasing demand for
residential rehabilitation, two large homes were purchased
on Washington Avenue in the city of St. Louis. In response
to the growing need for this program's services, the Washington
Avenue properties were then sold in 1981, and Teen Challenge
of St. Louis was relocated to its present twelve-acre site
in High Ridge, Missouri.
Teen Challenge of St. Louis provides residential rehabilitative
care to men, ages 18 to 30, who are struggling with life-controlling
problems. Any individual who cannot function normally in society
due to drug addiction, alcoholism, or behavioral problems
is eligible to receive help at Teen Challenge of St. Louis
if he so desires.
Sadly, some rehabilitation and treatment centers are much
more selective in choosing clients than is addiction in choosing
victims. With skyrocketing rehabilitative costs and limited
insurance coverage and benefits, many cannot afford much needed
help in overcoming drug addiction and alcoholism. Since its
beginning, Teen Challenge of St. Louis has pledged to help
anyone regardless of socioeconomic status or ability to pay.
In fact, for a nominal fee ($450.00 for 14 months of residential
care), Teen Challenge offers these vital services to those
who desire help in overcoming life-controlling problems.
To provide this nearly free service, Teen Challenge of St.
Louis, a non-profit organization, must raise the funds necessary
to sustain all daily operational and administrative costs.
To this end, Teen Challenge looks toward private individuals,
churches, and the local business community for support.
Drug and alcohol addiction indeed knows no societal boundaries,
and the need for effective rehabilitation services increases
with each passing day. Teen Challenge of St. Louis is striving
to meet this need...one life at a time.
